100 Goals in 3 Seasons !! http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/100-goals-in-3-seasons/ Thu, 28 Aug 2014 21:46:00 +0000 http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/?p=2198 Sam MacDougall cSam MacDougall 100 goalsan be very quiet until he gets to know you. Likes to tell you when he scores lots of goals or scores a real good goal. He’s not a big fan of losing his games, he goes to games to win. Sam first started playing in 2010 in 8th grade at Christchurch United. In this grade there were no real positions. In his second year in 9th grade, he started the season as a defender and worked his way up to centre mid field/striker, here he scored 5 goals for the season. Now in 10th and 11th grade he started at striker and this is when he started to score all his goals, 35 goals in 2012 and 27 goals in 2013 and so far this season its 34. But over this 3 year period he has played in mid field and defence when needed. So you could almost say it’s taken Sam just over 3 seasons to get to 100 goals for United.

PDL league winners! http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/pdl-league-winners/ Sat, 05 Jul 2014 07:01:47 +0000 http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/?p=2092 Congratulations to the PDL Squad on winning the league today with ease after an emphatic victory over Selwyn. The team were rampant as they dispatched the opposition with nine goals in superb fashion. Acknowledgement must be made to the manner in which the team have had to adapt over the season after losing players in key areas through long term injuries. Every member of the squad has played with a selfless determination that is a credit to one another. We now look forward to the remaining games of the season and more importantly what lies ahead…….

An update from Christchurch United Womens http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/an-update-from-christchurch-united-womens/ Wed, 02 Jul 2014 22:18:23 +0000 http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/?p=2015 Our womens team is having another successful season. Here are two match day reports from the coach, Bevan Reid.

Sunday 22nd June 2014

The women’s team played Mid-Canterbury in Ashburton today.

Up to the start of the game Mid-Canterbury were heading for an unbeaten season having played 10, won 9 and drawn 1.

United were 4 points behind so even with a win were unable to claim the league title, but were able to confirm second position.

The ladies played with a lot of pride and they really wanted the win. After 90 minutes of a real arm wrestle were able to come out with a 1 nil win.

Our keeper, Shelly McDowall, made a glorious 1 on 1 save to keep the girls in the game and after 90 minutes we managed a 1 nil win, with the goal scored by Leila Shahtahmasebi.

The whole team played extremely well, and played for each other.

A special mention must be made of Helen Keeman who was pushed from pillar to post as far as positions during the game and played really well in all of the position.

Player of the day went to Shelly McDowall.

Below is the writeup of the game from the Ashburton Guardian:

The Mid Canterbury women’s league victory finished on a sour note, losing to rivals Christchurch United 1-0 in Mainland Football women’s division two in Ashburton on Sunday.

Mid Canterbury had gone through 10 games unbeaten to have the league title wrapped up heading into the weekend’s final round, only to have their party spoiled by Christchurch United.

Instead of completing an unbeaten league season, Mid Canterbury stumbled at the final hurdle at home to finish one point in front of United – who lost twice in the latter part of the season.

Mid Canterbury should now, by rights, gain promotion to division one next season.

Sunday 29th  June 2014

The women’s team played Nomads at Clare Park today.

We were looking forward to this game today other than the fact we only had a squad of 12 for the game (some of the girls were going to be shattered after this one!)

In the second minute Sharne Andrew managed to beat the keeper with a good shot. 1 nil up. (At this point the Nomads coach was overheard to say “Oh no, this could be bad!”).

From this point on the girls kept their foot on the accelerator and didn’t really let Nomads have the ball. (If the opposition haven’t got the ball they can’t score). The Keeper, Shelly McDowall, wasn’t called on to make a save at any stage in the first half. In fact the only time she touched the ball was from a passback or to take a goalkick!

3 more goals to United in the first half scored by Julie Jorgensen (Penalty), Sarah Tomlin and Dianna Creighton.

At half time the coaching staff made some changes to the lineup, which with hindsight I have to admit may have changed the lineup a bit too much, and put too much pressure on the defenders. (5 strikers may just have been a few too many!)

Nomads managed to crack the defence twice in the early stages of the second half and our centre back, Kristy Reid, adjusted the lineup slightly on-field and the team went back to playing good football and being on attack (It’s an easy game when you communicate and listen!)

Final Score 4 – 2 to United.

Well done girls!

It was difficult to pick Player of the Day as all of the girls played extremely well but we gave it jointly to Zahra Shahtahmasebi and Sarah Barclay.

A word from the President http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/a-word-from-the-president/ Tue, 13 May 2014 07:40:15 +0000 http://www.christchurchunited.co.nz/?p=1978 On a lovely autumn day, I was lucky to be able to delegate my 13th girls managerial duties, to watch 8 Christchurch United teams playing on Saturday at various locations around the city. I met parents from 9th & 10th grade teams, watched 8th grade practice before their game, 11th grade Hawks at Avonhead finish with an resounding win, 18th grade thump FCTwenty11, our Div 3, Presidents, PDL & Div 1 all playing at Spreydon Domain.

I want to congratulate our members, family and supporters for the wonderful way our club is represented. Our players looked awesome in club colours, was not hard to find in a sea of yellow (CashTech) or red (FCTwenty11), the positive way in which the “beautiful game” was being played, and the smile on faces was a joy to behold.

I was immensely proud to be wearing my club jacket and cap around the “opposition” fields.

Thank you to our supporters who came to watch our first Chatham Cup game on home soil for a number of years.  Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we wanted but we have another go with the English Cup Tuesday 13th at ASB against Nomads. Please support our team.

We had a number of past committee members who came back to join us in the clubrooms after the game, who commented on what a great job our Committee has done in the last 5 months. I support their comments. Awesome job team.

Well done to all

Go the RAMS!
