Christchurch United was established in 1970 and over 30 years the club became one of the most successful football clubs in New Zealand, winning 6 National League Titles and 6 Chatham Cup Finals. The club won the League & Cup double in 1975 and 1991. In recent years the club has been struggling to maintain its membership base. This partnership is intended to enable the club to once again become a leading club in New Zealand.
Established in 2014 the Christchurch Football Centre has developed a world class facility on Yaldhurst Road. This facility has been the home of the Christchurch Football Academy whose goal is to grow football players with a life-long passion for the game. To do this they aim to offer boys and girls the best football experience in New Zealand.
At the end of the 2016 season our club will relocate to the Christchurch Football Centre. Changes to the constitution mean that a management board made up of representatives of the present club and the Christchurch Football Centre assisted by a number of paid staff will be responsible for developing a professional and successful club focused on providing the best possible opportunities for football players and supporters.
It is intended that the club will support a strong academy with qualified and professional coaching, a full football pathway providing players with the opportunity to play football at the highest levels and provide opportunities for involvement in national and international tournaments.
In addition the club will continue to provide a community focused football experience at Spreydon Domain.
As a result of the partnership the club will grow to approximately 500 playing members. Opportunities will soon exist for supporters and corporates to become members of the club.
The newly constituted management board will have its first meeting within the next month and begin planning for the 2017 season.
If you have any questions about the partnership and the future of the club please do not hesitate to contact Anselm Williams ([email protected]).

As far as being able to diagnose a concussion:
Firstly we DO NOT expect players / referee’s / coaches and managers to DIAGNOSE a Concussion or Possible Concussion. There is no longer a minor, mild or severe concussion. A Concussion or Possible Concussion is just that; ONLY A TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL CAN DIAGNOSE A CONCUSSION.
Like many sports injuries there are the obvious signs (we can see a pulled hammy, or MCL), and we can usually see a head wound or egg on the head.
We wouldn’t allow a player to play on with a pulled hamstring or ruptured MCL, so we shouldn’t allow a player that has taken a serious head knock to carry on either.
In cases where a player has received a head wound (bleeding), an egg on the head (Swelling and Bruising) been dazed by a head clash or impact with the ground (where am I, stars in their eyes etc), or been knocked out (even for the briefest of moments), they should be sat out for the remainder of the game until assessed by a trained medical professional.
IF IN DOUBT SIT THEM OUT – should be the mantra we all play too……
Please read the following policies for head injurys and concussions:

This decision has not been made lightly and the main factor is that, due to hardened grounds caused by the very dry summer and autumn, with the heavy rain last week the grounds are now very sodden, and with the forecast of more rain this weekend.
Mainland Football wishes to preserve the grounds for as long as possible, and believe by playing this weekend many grounds will be on the verge of being unplayable for some considerable time.
Mainland Football are as frustrated as our members will be, but hope our members will be understanding that this decision has been made in the interest of preserving grounds.
